In this nagthang thangka, the protector deity Lha chen Tshangs pa is gold in colour with one face, two hands and three eyes. Wearing a brocade gown, protective armour and high boots, he is adorned with a circular mirror on his chest. His golden crown is surmounted by a turban topped by a white conch shell. In his right hand he brandishes a flaming sword to symbolically destroy the enemies of the dharma; in his left he holds a jewel-spitting mongoose, a bowl of gems and a noose. Cradled in the crook of his left arm is a spear-flag. He rides a dark blue horse which resides on a lotus base and is adorned with a saddle rug and golden ornaments. The blazing flames surrounding the central deity indicate his wrathful nature. Lha chen Tshangs pa is one if the ten tutelary deities, whose duty is to protect the dharma.
